Classic-inspired / Falling-block game

Falling Blocks: Custom Digital Stacking Game

Falling Blocks adapts a familiar falling-piece format into a 90-second browser game. Match three or more same-colored pieces in a row or column to clear them and trigger chain reactions, then try a three-question bonus quiz. It is a different project from the stacking build story on the EventBitZ blog.

Falling Blocks

Move and drop pieces on the digital board, clear same-color matches and try the bonus quiz. A leaderboard name is optional. The stacking-game build story on the blog describes a different project.

  • A 90-second digital falling-block game with match-and-clear chain reactions
  • Arrows move, Up rotates, Down soft drops, Space hard drops, and P pauses
  • Three trivia questions after play and an optional leaderboard name

Why the format can fit a product story.

01

The round

The live browser game lasts 90 seconds. Drop multicolored pieces, match three or more of one color in a row or column, and clear groups to trigger chain reactions.

02

An illustrative mapping

For a hypothetical workflow product, a matched group could represent clearing a recurring bottleneck. That is a possible direction to develop in a new brief, not the product story of this example.

03

The follow-up

Three rapid-fire trivia questions appear after play. The optional leaderboard name and trivia questions are features of this example, not a promise about another build.

A conversation after play

“Which step in your workflow would you most like to make easier?”

Ask which recurring task or queue the visitor would most like to clear. Listen for the real process before connecting the game metaphor to a product conversation.

Possible new version

Start with your product.
Build an original game world.

A new classic-inspired stacking game could change the objects, visual style, round rules, scoring, questions and finish screen to fit an approved product story. The scope would be agreed for that project rather than assumed from Falling Blocks.

Booth-use considerations

  • Allow for the live demo’s 90-second round and three post-play questions when considering booth flow.
  • The controls are arrows to move, Up to rotate, Down to soft drop, Space to hard drop, and P to pause.
  • Its leaderboard name is optional; agree a separate event-data approach for any commissioned game.
  • This customer example is a different project from the custom stacking-game build story on the blog.
